Learn more about the SBE binary protocol and FIX

Access details below

Simple Binary Encoding (SBE) is a FIX standard for encoding binary messages developed by the CME Group and the FPL High Performance Working Group, which aims to optimize the exchange of financial data for high-volume, low-latency data dissemination. Compared to FAST (old encoding standard) it is simpler and faster to encode and decode.

FIX is a technical specification for electronic communication of messages related to the financial market. It is an open standard managed by members of the FIX Trading Community.

1. As of April 15, we will start parallel production of Binary Market Data using only Feed B Incremental Stream for all Listed instruments. During parallel production, in a purposeful way, Binary Market Data (Feed B) will be slower than FIX Market Data. The Snapshot Recovery and Instrument Definition streams must normally be read from Feed A, where they are available.
2. As of March 27, FIX Market Data may experience a 15 microsecond latency degradation.
3. In the mock sessions of April 15, May 27 and June 24, as disclosed in External Communication 131/2022, dated September 6, 2022, the Feed A, Feed B and Feed C (DR) channels will be available from Binary Market Data. Additionally, it should be noted that Feed A, available during mock tests, will be faster than Feed B and FIX Market Data.
4. The date of entry into production, as well as the tranches, will be informed in due course.
5. Any issues and behaviors encountered during parallel production should be reported to Trading Support.
6. All Market Data channels will be available in parallel production.

In parallel production the binary market data will be updated to 1.6.0 protocol. We are making the 1.6.0 templates file available and the update will be mandatory for the continuity of validation by participants, vendors and clients in Binary UMDF Market Data. The production update dates, as well as the tranches, will be informed in due course.
