The continued growth of new companies in Brazil and the imminent exhaustion of available CNPJ numbers led the Brazilian Internal Revenue Service to change the CNPJ format through Normative Instruction RFB No. 2229 dated October 15, 2024. Therefore, the Alphanumeric CNPJ will be assigned to new company registrations as of July 2026.
B3 is preparing for the change through a solution that will enable users to identify companies registered with the new CNPJ. With this, B3 hopes to improve the business environment, contributing to Brazil's economic and social development.
The implementation of the Alphanumeric CNPJ will not impact existing CNPJ numbers. They will not undergo any changes and those already registered with the CNPJ will continue to have their valid number.

B3 is preparing its systems for the implementation of the Alphanumeric CNPJ, starting in June 2026.
The CNPJ (Corporate Taxpayer Register) number is essential for the integration of systems, both at the Brazilian Internal Revenue Service and in public and private bodies. The current typology is numeric (99,999,999/9999-99). The alphanumeric numbering will consist of 14 characters, maintaining the structure and size of the current CNPJ number.
The ISPB and iSelic codes, which derive from the first digits of the CNPJ, will also undergo changes.
With this project, B3 will adapt its routines and systems for the change starting in June 2026, according to the instructions available on the Brazilian Government portal Gov.br.
