B3 launched 16 FX Futures Contracts of foreign currencies on Dollar (USD pairs) just over a year ago. These were launched in addition to the existing currency pairs on Real, highlighting one of B3´s core pilliars, which is to listen closely to market requests. As a result, we were able to bring greater efficiency to investors who needed to trade two contracts in order to gain exposure to USD, as well as reducing costs and eliminating execution risks.

Currency futures in USD has been growing since 2019. In 2020 it reached successive records, with an all time high in February:

• Open interest was above 154,000, an increase of 309% when compared to 2019 average.

• An average of more than 16,800 contracts were traded per day, an increase of 302% compared to the average traded in 2019 (ADV 4,200 contracts).

It is worth mentioning the significant increase in investors trading these products. In addition, the USD pairs already represent 74% of the total volume traded when compared to Futures Contracts on Real.
