Simpler and more automated data collection
B3’s Carbon Efficient Index (ICO2 B3) aims to be an indicator of the average of asset price performance of companies that stand out for producing the best Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions coefficients and for adopting management practices that lead to greater efficiency in these emissions, thus contributing to the transition to a low-carbon economy.
From now on, data collection in the selection process will be done through the ESG Workspace platform, which standardizes and provides ESG-related data from listed companies in a centralized manner.
Another change was the creation of a GHG Emissions Management score. The criteria for selecting assets were also changed.
The ICO2 B3 2024 selection process begins on August 5 and ends on September 30. The first step to participate is to create a master username on ESG Workspace and validate your data.

The new Carbon Efficient Index methodology is now valid for the 2024-2025 selection process, which begins on August 5 and runs until September 30.
Data collection: The information used in the methodology will follow a collection flow by B3 and validation by companies through the ESG Workspace platform.
Creation of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Management Score: A quality indicator for carbon emissions management, assessed according to public evidence of adoption of management practices that indicate possible improvement in the company's Emission/Revenue Coefficient over time.
New inclusion criteria: Expansion of eligible companies for the B3 Brazil Broad-Based Index (IBrA B3), in addition to the set of climate criteria that must be met cumulatively for the asset to be eligible for selection.
The asset must compose the Brazil Broad-Based Index (IBrA B3) portfolio and simultaneously meet the following criteria:
- Be among the 75% of companies with the lowest Greenhouse Gas Emission x Revenue coefficients.
- Be among the companies with the best performance in their sector by GHG emissions management score.
- Adopt at least 4 of the 10 management practices considered in the calculation of the GHG Emissions Score.
- Validate the GHG Emissions Management Score data previously collected on the ESG Workspace platform and agree to use the data to compose the portfolio.
The weight of each asset in ICO2 B3 will now take into account the following aspects:
- Emission/Revenue Coefficient (or E/R Coefficient).
- GHG Emissions Management Score.
- Company performance in relation to its Economic Sector.
