B3 Central Depository is where the centralized custody of assets, e.g., stocks, ETFs, BDRs, real estate funds, etc traded on the exchange is carried out. The Central Depository is also responsible for processing issuers' events (payment of dividends, for example), liens and encumbrances on assets and periodic reconciliation of balances and transactions, among other activities. 

When an investor buys an asset, e.g. stock or ETF, B3 assumes responsibility for controlling ownership of the asset and assure its existence and integrity. Thus, the investor is guaranteed to receive the asset, while the buyer is guaranteed to receive the payment. This is done every time the asset changes hands. 

The term “cloud native technology” is used to describe the process using distributed computing to develop applications and solutions, while gaining scalability and flexibility. At B3 Central Depository, these benefits will be obtained over time, as until the upgrade is completed, the services will continue to be normally used by the market.

The upgrade will increase B3 Central Depository’s capacity to respond to the growing demands of the Brazilian capital markets in the next 15 years, both in terms of products and services and in the number of investors, issuers and assets under custody. Therefore, more value will be delivered in less time.
